Freedom. Every individual longs for it – freedom from stress, freedom from burden, freedom from family problems, freedom from relationships, freedom from work, freedom from oppression, freedom from sadness, freedom from pressure, freedom from the world, freedom from sin. We search for this freedom through things we think are suitable, things that could liberate us. Those things could be hobbies, people of interest, alcohol, drugs, anything that can take us away from the choking hold of this world. Those things may take us to a different world, they may make everything seem blurry and distant. But it is only temporary. The sense of freedom we have from those doesn’t last.
There is one thing that sets us free. And it’s not only for a few hours. The freedom we get from this lasts until eternity. This freedom is from no other than Jesus Christ. His death was enough to pay for everything that enslaves us. Because of Him, we may live without regret, live a life filled with joy.
“Could it be any clearer? Our old way of life was nailed to the cross with Christ, a decisive end to that sin-miserable life—no longer at sin’s every beck and call! What we believe is this: If we get included in Christ’s sin-conquering death, we also get included in his life-saving resurrection.” Romans 6:6-11 (The Message)
Right now, things around us, situations in our country might not seem that we’re free. It may seem that we’re not truly independent. We don’t have to be depressed about it. Our freedom is not based on what the world says. Our freedom is in Christ. Live in Him, live for Him and you’ll be free as a bird can be.
Jesus has set us free from the chains. Our chains are gone, we’ve been set free. My God, my Savior has ransomed me.
In dependence with Christ, we’re independent from the hold of the world.
We are free from our past, free from sin. Liberty is ours!
Happy Independence Day!
